I love my job. I get to work with horses, I’m surrounded by incredibly amazing nature and the estate is absolutely beautiful! My job is hard work though, which I don’t mind. I like to work hard. As I said in a previous post you should always work your hardest at your job. I feel like lately I have been guilty of not doing my best and being lazy at work. This must stop. I have worked with plenty of people who are lazy or do their job half-assed and those people piss me of to no end. It’s frustrating when people don’t do their job completely so you think “Why should I work so hard?” Well I am learning that when someone doesn’t work hard, whether it be a superior or a senior at work, it doesn’t give you a reason to not work hard. In fact, you should work even harder and you should do it quietly.
Let your workings remain a mystery.
Just show people the results.
Tao Te Ching Chapter 38
“But why should I have to work harder to make for someone else’s lack of work and not be recognized for it?” Good question!
In the Tao Te Ching there are many chapters that talk about doing work then letting go or do your work and simply show results don’t take credit. Our work and knowing we did a good job should be enough of a prize. I truly believe that no matter what job you have, you do your best at it, you work to become better at it and you don’t complain when you aren’t recognized for your efforts.
Someone once said “Approval isn’t necessary.”
Now I know many people will not agree with me but this is how I feel. I feel better when I know the job I was given gets done. It doesn’t have to be done fast just get it done and do it right. And if it’s wrong, that’s okay, learn from it and do better next time. I’ve been doing the same thing at work for half a year now and even at times when I think “It’s perfect there should be no complaints!” There is always at least one complaint. I’m learning that some people are never satisfied. Even when people acknowledge your work it is not always in a positive light but you can’t let it get to you. Some days I want to throw my hands in the air or flip a table, some days I want to punch people in the face and then I want to give up. “I’m sick of trying so hard and it never being enough.” Well listen up, if you try your best and you do your job and work hard even when nobody else is, even with all of the complaints you may get, your work is enough.
We are all just human and only so much can be asked/expected of us. We can only be expected to do our best and to get better. As for the people who are never happy with your work and always have something to say about how you did it wrong, I feel sorry for them. To worry so much and to nitpick such small details must be exhausting emotionally and mentally. It’s exhausting to hear it but once you stop letting it bother you it won’t drain you or make you angry. I’m done getting upset over doing things wrong. If I have done my best I will be satisfied with my work and if I slacked off then I have no one to blame but myself for not working harder.
Always work hard. If you hate your job so much that you have no desire to work hard, you just go through the motions and do the bare minimum well do everyone else that work with a favor and quit. If you aren’t happy with your job, leave. Yes, it’s a job and you need to make money to have a house and food to eat but you only live once so you might as well do something you like and not make work harder for other people by not doing your best.
In work, do what you enjoy.
